Review: Entangled by Cat Clarke
I don't think I can ever fully understand the desire to hurt to ease pain. But I have to say that I loved how she put herself together. A part of her went to rest when she woke up. She has the will to fight now but she will still need help I think. I don't like many books without romance. neither do I love books about self growth or teenage angst with a lot of drama and misery. so the fact that I liked this book is unexpected. Even more unexpected is that it is one of my favorites.
Review: Twist by Dannika Dark and A The Pop Star's Name Change
This is an excellent book. Have you noticed that the girl on the cover looks like a dark-haired Taylor Swift? Now that I think about it, Taylor Swift kind of looks like Hannah Montana! I'm just sayin'... Instead of Taylor Alison Swift she could be called Taylor Hannah Twist!

Badass Scene in Necromancing the Stone by Lish McBride
Ah, yes, Eric. My number one fan. Of course he was here. We were a thunderstorm and an industrial accident away from the best day ever. I wondered if I should have Ashley run over and give me a wedgie just to complete the experience.
Not to be swayed, Eric kept his eyes on me, his voice pitched for all to hear. “No, someone needs to stand up for the pack. Someone needs to stand up for your family. This”—he waved at the wolves that I’d raised—“is adding insults on top of what he has already done. If this doesn’t prove that he cares nothing for us, what does?”
Okay, now, I’d felt pretty bad over the last few days for screwing up, but this time … well, this time, with the help of my furry clue-sniffing undead lackeys, I was actually doing something helpful. So I got angry. I left Ramon’s side and marched over to Eric.“Look, buddy, I don’t know what your freaking problem is, but has it occurred to you that I’m trying to do my damn job?” I waved out at the crowd of creatures. “This is what I do. This is how I help.”
He got in my face and started jabbing a finger into my chest. “Then we don’t want your help, if this is what it looks like. First you bring a human among us, and now this? I don’t like your kind, and I’m not the only one. They can’t be trusted. You can’t be trusted.” He drew the last word out, practically hissing it.
That’s our Eric. What a charmer. Ladies, try not to swoon.
I stared down at his finger. He’d left it stuck to my chest, poking just a little too hard to be comfortable. I felt the rage blossom in my rib cage and spread out like a sea anemone. The tentacles reached for that offending finger. I like to think that I’m a pretty mellow person. I try really hard to understand where people are coming from. To show a little sympathy or empathy where I can. But even I have my limits, and I had been pushed a touch too far the last couple of days.
Very softly I said, “You need to remove your hand and back away.”
“Or what?” And he shoved me. A little push is all, the small ubiquitous shove that prompts so many schoolyard scuffles. But it was enough.
I felt the animals stop what they were doing and come up behind me. And I felt the things that couldn’t rise. The ghosts, the spirits, the energy, call it what you will, but it was all there, and it was for me. And I took it. I looked up at Eric, and I felt the burning in my eyes, the unveiled wrath and fury. “Or I will remind you why I am Council and you are not.” And I shoved him back. Not hard. Enough to put him off balance and get him out of my face, but not to hurt him. Yet.
I let my jacket fall. I didn’t need it now. My skin felt like it was burning up. And for the first time, I think I really understood what it meant to be Council, and that I was right to be there.
I advanced. “Do you know what that means, or do I need to break it down for you?” The wolves that I’d raised flanked me, growling softly. “It means that I work for the law, I work for justice, no matter what you want. You think I give a damn if I’m pissing you off or offending your fucking sensibilities? I don’t. This is what I do. This is what I am. I won’t apologize for it any more than you should for sprouting hair and drooling on occasion.” I jabbed him in his chest. He wanted to fight. I could feel it. Some of it was directed at me, but mostly it was just built-up aggression. But you know what? We’d all been having a shitty week. That didn’t mean we got to take it out on whomever we wanted.
The crowd around me felt like it was at a tipping point. If we got in a fight, an actual physical altercation, it might do more damage than Eric wanted. There were a lot of high emotions floating around. But I had a feeling that if I didn’t throw a little smack down on this assjack, it would be opening up the floor for all kinds of challenges. I couldn’t afford that. And even if I wanted to, it wasn’t like I could take Eric in such a way physically that would dissuade others from trying. Skinny necromancer versus full werewolf? No contest. Tokyo under the rampaging feet of Godzilla. But I didn’t need to hit him. I just needed to scare him.
The pack had gotten pretty comfortable with me. I’d been around for a while, and I’d never done anything really spooky in front of them, and it had made a few of the dumber ones like Eric careless. There’s a reason why Zeke is careful when he frisks me at the Tongue & Buckle, though. He’s always thorough, I don’t mean that. But when it comes to me, he makes sure his skin never touches mine. Smart people are careful around someone like me.

Releases: House Rules by Chloe Neill
In a city full of vampires, trouble never sleeps.
At the tender age of 27, Merit became a sword-wielding vampire. Since then, she’s become the protector of her House, watched Chicago nearly burn to the ground, and seen her Master fall and rise. Now she’ll see her mettle—and her metal —tested like never before.
It started with two . . . Two rogues vanishing without a trace. Someone is targeting Chicago’s vampires, and anyone could be next. With their house in peril, Merit and her Master, the centuries old Ethan Sullivan, must race to stop the disappearances. But as they untangle a web of secret alliances and ancient evils, they realize their foe is more familiar, and more powerful, than they could have ever imagined.
Are you like me and impatiently waiting for the release? Well, we won't have to wait long...Although it is going to feel like we are the vampires living out eternity in wait. On the morning of February 5th 2013, we will collectivly come out of the darkness and be reborn into the LIGHT!... By that I mean that our addictive - and possibly unhealthy - love of Merit will finally be satisfied. I might have gotten carried away with the metaphore.

Review: Scorpia Rising by Anthony Horowitz
I don't really have much to say on this book. It was kind of a let down after all the adventures alex has lived through. He seemed a shadow of himself from the start and things just kept getting worse. Jack shouldn't have died. It just feels wrong. I would have wanted things to get more interesting after andrew realised that alex lied but it just didn't come. and the whole evil-twin thing has been done too many times to be truly entertaining anymore

Review: The Boy Who Sneaks In My Bedroom Window by Kirsty Moseley
This is a good book but the synopsis was a little deceiving.
"And how will her brother, who has always been a little overprotective, react when he finds out that the pair are growing closer?"
I kept expecting Jake to freak out and turn psycho on his best friend like his father would have. It turned out to be not much of an issue so I don't get why it was in the synopsis and the psychotic father was barely mentionned.
I wouldn't read it again not because it's not good but because it's a little heavy for me.
Review: Life of Pi by Yann Martel
This book is simply amazing and a definite must read. Whatever you do, DO NOT skip to the end of the book. The end will blow you away but this story needs to be savored. Have fun finding the double-meaning of everything. This book may not make you believe in God, but it makes it possible to believe in the hard to believe

Only weakness:
None of the characters surrounding the brothers, whose POVs we heard, actually stuck to the story. They became victims, died, were left behind or satisfied somehow so they wouldn't bother them again. I grew attached and I wanted them to stick around

Review: My Blood Approves Series by Amanda Hocking
I don't like this series! sure I love the whole peter-alice-jack triangle but it's the only good point. Mae is creepy, Ezra is ordinary, Alice is whiny ( seriously, she cries way too much) , Peter is... contrary and I don't like the hot/cold way jack is acting all the time. I would have liked peter a lot more as her boyfriend, you know? the whole "uncontrolable attraction" made for a good basis for a relationship but then it would have become something more and jack would have been in there somewhere making trouble for the couple. but that would only push peter to admit his feelings and reveal that he likes alice but not because he can't help it.

Review: The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson
I loved the book. I never liked Keith and everytime he appeared in the first book I was like "well... move on already!". And what respectable guy labels a relationship with a "kind of something"? A jerk is who! it's all very sweet how oliver and her become friends and then a little more. I pitied the girl at the beggining. even I know that I'm not friends with someone anymore when he stops answering my emails. it's called "drifting apart". everyone knows you don't make a suprised visit to your long distance "boyfriend", it's in every book and every movie ever made. you only end up catching them cheating on you.

I loved this book! the cover and style of the story reminded me of some books by Kristan Higgins that I liked. I love accidental pregnancy stories! I'll watch out for your books from now on Jane Graves!

Review: The Selection by Kiera Cass
I really like America. I think we are really seeing her grow up in the book. From the young girls with the dreams of happy endings to the mature young woman willing to be there for someone else. I think that she would be a worthy queen, she shows her kindness and generosity thorough the book. She is compassionate and passionate about what she believes in. That makes her a strong and good person. I would like her to be kidnapped by bad guys in a futur book (I'm a sucker for drama). I want to learn more about the current queen and the whole family dynamic. It was a great book and i can't wait for the sequel.
I think she will end up with Prince Maxon. Aspen is from the past, he belongs there with the little girl that America was. It seems clear to me that she and Maxon are slowly falling in love. Aspen was just a crush.

Dumbass Things You Should Not Do #2
My Dumbass Things You Should Not Do articles are personal life lessons I learned while reading novels. Unfortunetly, You can't slap a character senseless when it is being a dumbass but I decided that, in the event the Apocalypse or something like it destroys what is left of mankind's good sense, my articles should remain as archives of a time where blond young women knew not to venture in the basement of their homes when there was a storm outside.
I always think it is the most cliché thing to say " I don't know what you're talking about" when you're being accused. It is THE sentence that garantees your guilty. It's right up there with "I want my lawyer", "I have nothing to hide" and "why would you think that?"

Review: V is for Virgin by Kelly Oram
Very good book. I was kind of surprised because one of the few things I dislike about YA is that they make a big deal out of sex all the time. Sex is a big deal but what a teenager wants to read about is "being swept away", "passion" and , let's not forget, "tension". This book has the three but doesn't diminish the importance of that big step in a girl's life(a huge point in favor of the author btw).I highly recommend the book!

Review: The Marked by Inara Scott
This was a real let down from the previous book. I never liked Cam but with jack in the picture I figured it would become a love triangle/forbidden love story. instead, jack, the only male love interest that I liked, became this evil guy bent on killing from the "greater good"! I thought something with burnett might happen after a while because they got along so well, but then he leaves! I'm glad for trevor and esther - or is it hennie? - but I think it's too much that ANOTHER watcher fell in love with the girl he watched (like cam did). in the first book, cam was the naive idealist and jack the cynic bad boy. I have a weakness for bad boys so I figured I would tolerate her being with cam as long as she ended up with jack but THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN NOW!!!! we need another bad boy because cam is way too boring! he's like the handsome quater back in highschool: a pretty face with a good heart but absolutly no fire.

Review: Article 5 by Kristen Simmons
I liked this book very much. The love between Chase and Ember was sweet but painful at times. I want to learn what happens with Rebecca. I hope the next story will be about them because I would like this to be the end of Chase and Ember's. the only thing that really bothered me was the way the story would be told by Ember and for a sentence only we get a glimpse of what Chase is feeling or thinking. And I checked, there was no way she would have deduced his feelings at the time, she was too emotional to register much at the time or she wouldn't have answered like she did. it went like this:
ember from the beggining. she's pissed off.blah blah. how could you? ect.
Chase for two lines : Guilt, ashamed, so sorry, helplessness.
Then it's ember again and we don't hear from chase's pov anymore.
If Simmons was going to tease with glimpse into chase's mind, she should have made it longer. otherwise it's kind of confusing and annoying.

Review: A Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang
I have mixed feelings about this book.
I love the unicorn, he's so funny. but I don't like my heroines to be cowards. that's why I read books: so I can see (read) what happens when someone with real guts takes charge of her destiny. having abby walk away from every confrontation was irratating. I wanted to slap her every time she told herself she was a coward! HELLO, do something about it, idiot!!!
the romance was seriously screwed up. for one, the relationship was doomed from the start because of what he is. he can't love, he's not made for it. and he was such an ass when he rescued her. she didn't have a nightmare of him attacking her because of his real form! she had just learned of his betrayal and her last relationship with an otherfolk consisted of blackmail and rape! is he so suprised when she dreams of him doing the same thing jett did to her after bargaining her life like that?
Moira was a little inconsistant. from the beggining she seemed like a cold bitch but at the end she does and about face and becomes the caring mother... I can't keep my feeling about her straight.
I love the prince, abby's bodyguard. I hope there will be some romance there but I would prefer later. she needs to grow a backbone before she gets into a possibly doomed relationship again. that way she won't fall apart and we won't have to read about her moaning and whining again for half the book until she hooks up with someone highly unadvisable in fit a self pity.

Review: Mate Set by Laurann Dohner
I was really disapointed by this book. the beggining was strange.
Mika is sourrounded by four men she knows are stronger than she is and are at that moment, debating which one of them gets to rape her first, and all she can think about is not to show fear because it will make things worse? come on, any sane woman would have understood that it doesn't get much worse that group rape by men who could kill her accidently during sex! and she's concerned about not showing fear at that point?
and then she gets saved by another werewolf but she doesn't scream when he askes for a sexual favor. no,no! she thinks "that's true, I do owe him". that's like some tennage girls thinking that because a guy payed for a meal and a movie thicket that they owe him a blow job!
then her uncle decides to give her to him like a whore and she doesn't protest? "but it's for my suvival sweetheart!" come on! doesn't she have any self estime?
and what a moron the guy is for even thinking of bringing the other guy into the bedroom! then she gets locked in a cell with the guy after everything he did and she accually wants to touch him after it all? I thought for sure she'd gain some sense by that time and say "I would rather die!" (which she would have because of the barbaric pack leader).
and there's way too much sex. I get that it's supposed to be lots and lots of sex in those kind of books but nothing at all happens except sex and sex with some betrayals that result in some more make-up sex! I mean shouldn't there at least have been someone trying to kill her or something, some story to go with all that sex? an actual PLOT? and falling in love after one night in bed? give me a break!

Review: Borrowed Ember by Samantha Young
I've never seen an YA book cover with a shirtless hot guy on it but... I sure as hell don't mind. oh, and it was a great book.
I don't see the logic in clenching your jaw to hide your anger but Red does it all the time. I thought a clenched jaw WAS a sign of anger?
I think it was very stupid of Ari to tell Asmodeus that the Seal couldn't control her. It's the only think she has going for her and she was finally relatively safe because she wasn't a threat anymore but now he knows she can't be controlled so the Sultan will still want her dead!I think there is something between Asmodeus and Ari and I can't wait to read more about it. you know the whole thing about Lilif and Amodeus being light and dark, Lilif a little darker and Asmodeus a little lighter? My theory is that losing his sister made him darker and having Lilif inside her made Ari darker too. So, basically, both Asmodeus and Ari started out "lighter" and ended up "light/dark" with him leaning on the dark side because of the years without his sister and her on the light side because of the years raised as human. Where Asmodeus was lighter and Lilif darker, Ari is now lighter and him darker. She doesn't have Lilif's power anymore but since she is immune, I think she has a bigger role than ever since she is still powerful (being the daughter of Jinn King and Sala).

Review: The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa
I would have loved a short story of the Meghan anouncing that she was the new queen to Mab and Oberon. If only I could have seen how Ash escaped after spurning his mother.
I really loved this book. it was the perfect end to this series. I didn't want Ash and Meghan to be seperated again but at least now they can be together forever. I wanted to see more of Meghan's iron power before the end of the series but I can go without.I especially like the part where Ash relives all his mistakes and get's a conscience. Ariella was annoying though: making Ash doubt his feelings, being a bitch to Meghan in the dream and then dying just when everything was done! I was happy she was gone but she could have just gone on as a recluse in the dark cave instead. I would have like to see more of Meghan and Ash.. or at least have Ash thinking of her more often. I want to know what he felt like all those time where he had his "unreadable look" with her.

Review: Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson
Loved the book. That said, it still anoys me when heroines take other people to their word. Lila was lied to about the Unit's purpose but she believes everything a man who can destroy minds has to say based on an old photograph. photo's aren't proof of anykind. for one thing, a smile can be faked, the picture itself can be faked and circumstances change to make smiling at one particular person very unappealing and for very good reasons (not necessarily the one he told her either). This series has potential but I still think Lila is incredibly naive (calf love + blind faith + generally positive outlook on life = naiveté)

Review: Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
I cried so much while I read this, I didn't have any water left in my body. but it was a good cry: a what-a-terrible-thing-but-I-understand-now cry.I was really sad for the girl who never had a chance to experience life. And I couldn't help but like the boy for liking her despite of it all. my heart lifted a little at the end, when he ran after the loner girl who had been his friend. this book shows exactly why we never see any signs before someone kills himself. It really shows that we have more influence than we think. it's a beautiful book and I felt peaceful when I finished. I recommend not to start it if you don't plan to go through it all. this is not the sort of book you discard so you can finish later. this is not the sort of book you leave unfinished because you're bored (I don't see how that could be). I have to say that the girl sounded as if she was looking for validation for what she planed to do. when she went to see the counseler, she wanted to ease her guilt over what she was going to do, I think. and, by sending the tape, she was ensuring that everyone of the thirteen boys and girls would blame themselves. I cannot begin to understand the pain and misery you have feel to want to kill yourself but I can't help but feel like it is a very selfish thing to do. running from life without trying to live it... it's just so sad.

Review: Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
Very good book even if the heroine is a little slow on the uptake. I don't understand why she didn't tell Jackson right away who Selena was. She had already told him about voices in her heads, including one saying "behold the bringer of doubts", and the visions she had been having. He obviously believed her, I mean the visions came true and even HE couldn't deny she had strange abilities. Selena wouldn't have caused any trouble between them if Evie had just leaned over and told him "that girl is trouble because I dreamed she killed someone and was saving an arrow for me". And another thing! If She didn't trust Selena, why would she tell her about her grandmother?
I really think Jackson is a stupid, stupid guy. I mean he says he's been around the supernatural in the bayou but when a girl he tries to sleep with turns out to be as ruthless as he is to survive he suddenly reverts into a good catholic boy.
I can't wait for the next book because even though she and Death are destined to kill each other, I can't help feeling like there is something between them. From what I understand, he has been stalking her for centuries and is facinated with her gifts. She enjoys taunting him and finds him beautiful. They both repsect eachother's battle skills.

Review: Love is Fear by Caroline Hanson
I am incredibly disappointed in this book. I didn't understand most of it to be completly honest. I felt like the characters were all incredibly damaged and idiotic people.
Val is just sooo naive and bitchy.
Jack is a jackass and a hypocrite.
Lucas is...insane. Nothing ever makes sense!
First of all (and that goes all the way back to the first book) you don't prentend to love someone and then think of them living their own independent lives as "whoring" their way through a town.
For the second book, it is mostly little stuff that bugs me.
For exemple: Who says "snorkeling" in a casual conversation? And to the other guy with the hots for you? Pleeaase...
"jack was frozen in murderous desire" what does that even mean? Did he want to kill her or kiss her?
I hate how they go from saying one thing to thinking the opposite without the necessary thought process mapped out for us to follow.
For exemple: " she might never forgive him. And why should she? He'd been an asshole. In fact, he'd probably accomplished the one thing he didn't want to. His whole agenda for coming here had been to keep her out of the fanger's bed. One goal. And she was probably fucking him right now. How could she make such a piss-poor decision?"
He goes from having a pity party - and a sucky one at that since he is removing all sympathy i ever had for him when he talks about his agenda - to blaming her for everything and saying she's a goddam slut. Right before the pity party, they were breaking up and she said how she thought sex would make them form a deeper connection. Is she completly stupid? There is a reason our mothers all pull us aside at puberty for a "talk". It's because boys only think about one thing and they don't want us to end up heartbroken and pregnant at 16. Sex doesn't mean love!
The guy (we are still talking about jack here ok?) Keeps rejecting her and pushing her to risk her life for his own personal vengence. Everybody deserves a good and peaceful life, how dare he make her feel like a coward for wanting one? I think she is hiding her head in the sand because she seems to think she will actually get one but he should not make her feel guilty for trying to be happy.
I have a serious problem with Val. She has no self-estime. She actually went to lucas to talk about how pathetic she was! THAT is what is the most pathetic! at one point, she talk about fixing a conflict with oral sex and I thought " wow, jack was right. She is a whore".
Jack is so...confusing. one minute he is encouraging her to embrace her so-called "legacy" and kill vamps with him, next he is bitching at her for getting into trouble! All the while he goes on and on about how he failed in his task to protect her and blah blah blah.. well sure! You tell her to go and kill herself out of love for you,you frickin' moron!
For a while i thought of lucas as the tormented soul trapped in an emotionless body whose salvation was the beautiful empath he vowed to one day possess and protect... then he starts to manipulate, compell or kill someone and i just think " oh what the hell...?"
one time Val complained about how she didn't want to become that girl who goes out with jerks who make her feel bad about herself or something like that and i just thought "isn't she already that girl?".
The only reason i am reading this is because i want to know who she ends up with. If i were her, i would go with the celt god. At least i would have a brain, be immortal, get to kill bastard exes, bring life to a new world full of wonderful stuff like unicorns and leprechaun without having to go through the "wonders of childbirth" and be its queen at the side Of a totally hot guy who, apparently, radiates life.

I read this book and I was really disappointed. it's still good but not as good as I thought. Yara annoyed me so much I almost stop reading before getting to the half of the story. Really, when voices start screaming at you that you're in danger and to stay away from "him" you don't just ignore them! Especially considering the fact that you're family has a history of seeing ghosts so you basically know what's going on. She was stuck in denial for so long I wanted to slap her senseless! As to the fact that she always asked who "him" was, well it's kind of obvious when your choices are limited to two guys, one of which sticks close to you.
Plus, the cover is atrocious.

Review: 1984 by George Orwell
❶I like to read books because new worlds and lives are created in each. The main reason I liked this book is because I think the tone and events in 1984 create a truly horrifying world and I have never read another novel like it. In the story, there is no hope for any of it to get better because concepts such as democracy already took thousands of years to appear and any knowledge of it is being eradicated. How long would it take for it to come back even if the government wasn't doing everything to stop that from ever happening? The Freedoms we take for granted are being erased from the minds of Oceania's population. Soon, the idea of doing anything about it would never occur to anyone because the past has been reinvented to seem like nothing ever changed and people are raised into believing with absolute faith in nonsense.
“To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, [...]to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again: and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself.” Doublethink
To live in that world would drive anyone insane... at least, by our definition. Their definition of sane is believing, seeing and experiencing a reality constructed by the party. Memories of events are meaningless because if they are not in agreement with the party (a big if considering doublethink assures the destruction of any memory of the kind and of any memory of destroying it) then they are false memories, dreams, an overactive imagination, anything but the truth because if The Party says so, they never happened. That concept is called “controlled insanity”. Of course, The Party isn't above using events like these when they need them and no one doubts they are right because doublethink happens again. It temporarily put the condratictory memory under lock and key in the mind of the population until it is needed again.
“It needs an act of selfdestruction, an effort of the will. You must humble yourself before you can become sane.” Controlled insanity
The Party is a terrifing force because it is honest with itself about his motives for ruling. If an army general becomes the leader of a revolution and succeeds in taking over but he probably believes he is doing what is best for the country when he becomes a tyrant. However, the Party wants power, plain and simple. But the real reason it is unstoppable is because it understands how to get away with anything.
“In the old days the heretic walked to the stake still a heretic, proclaiming his heresy, exulting in it.[...]In the Middle Ages there was the Inquisition. It was a failure.[...]Why was that? Because the Inquisition killed its enemies in the open, and killed them while they were still unrepetant [...]Naturally all the glory belonged to the victim and all the shame to the Inquisitor who burned him.[...]The dead men had become martyrs and their degradation was forgotten.” said by O'Brien
The first step is to take the “criminals” quietly away. This ensures that their crime, in other words any ideas they have that goes against the interest of the Party, are never known or thought about by anyone else who might have otherwise witnessed the arrest and been interested by it. The second step is to destroy them until their mind break (ironically, according to O'Brien, this is where they start to become sane). They eradicate any ordinary human feelings. Final Step: By that point, they have been slowly crawling their way into their minds by making them doubt themselves with firmly delivered logic. The final step is to continue with that until no shred of doubt is left and the only thing a criminals care about are the Party. They believe it and they love it wholeheartedly. In the end, they believe they are guilty.
“You will be hollow. We shall squeeze you empty, and then we shall fill you with ourselves. [...]All the confessions that
are uttered here are true. We make them true.”said by O'Brien
❷Another reason I like this book is because it was published a few years after the Second World War, at the start of the Cold War. George Orwell, a journalist, was probably aware of the political problems all over Europe in the wake of WWII. In my opinion, this book, a sneak peek of a world where freedom is non-existent, was a way to tell people that the outcome could have been worse and also a way to warn them of the concequences if another war is officially declared so soon. If you take into account the time period and the mind set of the readers of that time you can truly understand and agree with why it became such a famous book. It must have been controversal at the time.

Review: Flying Blind by Deborah Cooke
The plot was great but the relationships struck me as weird. We have this fifteen year old girl that didn't get her period yet (or breasts for that matter) and she has the typical (if childish) crush on the older family friend. then she starts getting visions of a half naked guy and that doesn't lead anywhere romantic. BUT, she meet the hot bad boy who wants her, despite the no-breasts thing and zits. it was just weird. the physical description made me think of a 12 year old so the afore mentioned guys in her life are a bit too much. for a 16 or 17 year old who has "matured" everything would be fine but for a 15 year old with a stupid crush and no period it was very strange.

Review: Coronets and Steel by Sherwood Smith
How can she trust Sisi so much? didn't it occur to her that if her Grand married the man before her sister Elizabeth, it meant any of Elizabeth's children were the bastards instead of her mother? You would think that to a socialite like Sisi, it might convince her to have her killed after Tony came to her to talk about the quest for proof of that marriage.
I have to say, I don't see any chemistry between Tony and Kim. which made the kiss kinda feel reaaally gross to me.
"secret marriages have been forbidden for many years, child" well, duh! that's why they're SECRET!
Great story even if I felt like the heroine was pretty much going along for the ride instead of being.. well, heroic.

Review: Alpha by Rachel Vincent
I am unhappy with the romance.
I always thought it should be Jace. Her relationship with Marc is already... there... and we never really got how it all started, you know? The first signs of attraction, that look in the eyes from across the room? How they BECAME attracted to each other. How they BECAME such a couple.
Jace on the other hand puts on some moves from the first book and only becomes bolder. She is obvioulsy attracted to him so it's not like he's got some hopeless crush. She leads him on!
I absolutly HATED the last book(romance-wise). To be absolutly honest, I mostly just hate it when heroines go back to their first love instead of choosing the reeaaallyy HOT guy who is a bit on the "wild side" ;P

Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I loved this book so much I was amazed! To be honest, when I read the synopsis I expected the content to be a little childish. after all, the "hot mysterious neighbour that the new girl in town can't stand" thing has been done over and over. But Jennifer L.Armentrout really gave it a fresh spin with the alien bit. I'm 16 and I am getting bored with the typical YA books with the cliché romance stories and stupid heroines. I loved this book because it was much more my age than any YA I read so far. The ones that come close usually go overboard with the sex part or it becomes this sacred experience... there is no "being sweept away by passion" and let's admit it, that's what any 17 year old really wants to read about. I guy losing his control over you is a pretty awesome thing to fantasize over. There is "tension" and that's what I like the most.

Review: Unleashed by Nancy Holder
I was kind of annoyed with the heroine. She sit admireing a painting of a heart-shaped rock, a few weeks later she get paper clippings of a heart-shaped rock and when she finally makes the connection, she forgets in the morning when she hears the story of a heart-shaped rock. I mean, come one! How dumb can she be? And the whole thing with Justin at the end... He is sensitive and sweet. Then they get the house absolutly FILLED with angry pack members and he becomes an insensitive jerk. Can't she make the connection? but nooooo she has to blame him and get her feelings hurt because SHE. IS. JUST. THAT. DUMB.
I'm surprised by how her relationship with Cornelia ended. I can't believe neither realized what a golden opportunity this was! Cornelia is pack-less, ok, that stings, but now she can marry the rival pack leader she's in love with sithout problem! And Kat has a home and people to look after her so it's not like she's burdened by responsibility towards her. Cornelia gets her happy ending while Kat gets protection yet she BLAMES Kat for being ATTACKED after she just went through the traumatic event of shifting after spending WEEKS worried that she might become a MONSTER!!! What an ungrateful bitch!
I thought the whole plot of the "Wolf Within" conference wasn't very developped and was disapointed about that. the story consisted mainly of her freaking out over her research for the school project, of her freaking out over boys and of her freaking out of maybe-being a werewolf. She is intitled to freaking out but not quite so much. I hope she might grow a spine by becoming a werewolf (though not to the point of doing something reckless and being DUMB about it). I want her to find out who bit her.
I have my theories about who did it.
1) Jesse: nobody really takes him seriously so they would never think that HE could shift at will. He wants to marry Lucy so he bit Kat to make Justin marry her.
2) Justin: He is irresistibly attracted to her. Maybe that became a sort of obsession and he became hell bent on making her his.
3) Jack, the "Inner-Wolf" wakco: He has "presence", as Kat described. Maybe he is a werewolf. A loner alpha who created a pack out of gullible humans and decided to take the new girl with no family left to be is mate.
4)Trick: He is really the Hellhound and made sure she could never leave him by "make her his" after she left the party.
5)Mr. Lee Fenner, Pack Leader: His demetia is really a symptom of silver poisoning which is transforming him into a Hellhound.
6) Derek: obviously has a crush on her but he is the Hellhound which would explain why he knows so much about it and why his grandmother conveniently died.
I know I found a lot of things wrong with this book but considering the fact that I have read it twice now, this tells me this series as potential. I hope the second book is better because if not I will probably stop there with the Wolf Springs Chronicles

The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
"Steal peace, Eugenides. Steal me some time" -- Eddis to Eugenides
“You were the princess Irene the first time we met.”
“It means ‘peace,’” Attolia said. “What name could be more
inappropriate?” -- Eddis and Attolia after the latter's kidnapping
Interesting isn't it?
“Please,” he whispered. His voice was low but clear. “Don’t hurt me anymore.”
Attolia recoiled. Once, as a child, she’d thrown her slipper in a rage and had knocked an amphora of oil from its pedestal. The amphora had been a favorite of hers. It had smashed, and the scent of the hair oil inside had lingered for days. She remembered the scent still, though she didn’t know what in the stinking cell had brought it to mind. -- Eugenides and Attolia after cutting off his hand
This passage implies she had just unknowingly broken something very important to her.

Review: The Compass Rose by Gail Dayton
I didn't really read this book. I started to but when I got to the part where the heroine sleeps with Stone and then goes directly to bed with another man, I lost interest. I went through it at random...
from what I understand she take men as sex slaves and creates her own little harem. One guy is in love with her (even though she can't admit she is too), another in really hot and slightly insane, the third has blind faith in her and basically worships at her altar and the last one has no self esteem. Of course there is also the poor girl who was raped that she doesn't seem to care about much. Speaking of, it was strange how she changed from hating all men to some sort of seductress when she got a it of magic.
Of course there is a lot more to the story: something about a Goddess and a demon possessing a king or something like that. Wasn't very interesting because I hated the heroine. she basically made Fox a cripple because she didn't want anyone to discover her pregnancy.
The synopsis is deceiving. I thought she would become possessed (or at least stuck)with an annoying - but nonetheless VERY hot - God. There would be prejudice and fear from the People because she is so powerful, but the God would give her a duty. They would fight adversity (in the form of warrior, demons, thieves, killers, assassins, weird primitive desert tribes etc.)and try not to "succumb to temptation" or something. But it would be in vain because they would fall in love "but will their love make them stronger... or destroy them". I know this all sounds very cliché but there is reason they BECAME clichés in the first place, you know. It's because people like me love them.
I do NOT recommend this book.(But if anyone could find me a book like I just described I would be very appreciative)

Review: The Wolf Next Door by Lydia Dare
I liked the book but not quite as much as the other two before them. There was too much manipulation going on.William is so dense about women and Prisca is so stubborn that it blinds her to what's happening around her. They're incapable of seeing things from another point of vue so they are determined they are right about everything.
I didn't really like Prisca to begin with because she trapped Simon in marriage instead of letting things go on their natural course. I tought she would be less of a coward in showing her feeling (she's so outspoken!).Prisca sees William tied to a headboard and assumes the worst (anyone would) but doesn't even question whhyyy he keeps asking if she's safe? and she takes offense everytime he tries to tell her to do something! can't she see he's only worried about her? I didn't like that William lied to her so much, it wasn't the right way to go about it like Simon already said.
Caitrin was such a bitch from the moment she appeared in the story, I wanted to hit her for playing with Prisca's feelings when she's being an idiot.
All in all, I liked the romance but I felt a little sick in the stomach averytime Prisca was chicken and William lied .

Review: The Taming of the Wolf by Lydia Dare
Her habit of stamping her foot when she is irritated struck me as ridiculously childish and I groaned out loud everytime she did it. Other than that, I loved the story. I wished I could have known what she said to make the marquess suddenly see the error of his ways because I didn't get the impression that she knew that much about lycans anyway.
I am getting a little tired of every male in this series being afraid to hurt or be hurt because of what they are. I'd like to see one supremely confident and that it is the woman maybe who is a bit insecure. Every woman so far is incredibly stubborn and outspoken. I don't think it's all that likely or accurate for regency england to be populated by so many strong women who all - by some bizarre trick of fate - end up with supernatural beings .Not to mention that they are all friends! But I accually like that aspect because I'm very fond of the other characters and I want to know what happens to them.
The whole time I read the third book, I kept seeing Dash as the bad guy but when he explained his point of vue to Caitrin, I have to admit that he had a good reason for what he did. William didn't play fair, why should he have? I still think he had no right to try to steal Prisca by claiming her but I understand his motivation.
I can't wait to read the next books from the series. I can just imagine the stories that Dash's brothers will provide. There is also the mysterious love between Sorcha and Alec. I want to see how that happens even if it's not the main story of a book. There is also the gentlemen from the inn who bites differently (I can only asume he is a vampire from that comment). He should make things interesting. He's going to be with Rhiannon from what I could understand of Caitrin's comment. I also want to know what the hell is going on with Blaine.

Dumbass Things You Should Not Do #1
My Dumbass Things You Should Not Do articles are personal life lessons I learned while reading novels. Unfortunetly, You can't slap a character senseless when it is being a dumbass but I decided that, in the event of a Apocalyptic event destroys what is left of mankind's good sense, my articles should remain as archives of a time where blond young women knew not to venture in the basement of their homes when there was a storm outside.
I always think it is ridiculously stupid when characters in books say "If he wanted us dead, he could have killed us by now". There is no way to know how someone's mind works or his motivation for keeping a stranger alive. To trust someone on the assumption that he won't kill you because he already could have is idiotic.

Maybe he wants to gain your trust because he gets some kind of sadistic pleasure from destroying people's hope with betrayal.
Maybe he needs you.
Maybe he is busy right now and will do it later because you're harmless to have around for a while longer.
Maybe he wants to hurt you before killing you.
Maybe he wants to hurt you before killing you.
Maybe he likes killing and hasn't chosen his favorite method yet.
For Goodness' sake, don't put you life in a stranger's hands for no good reason you dumbass fictional people of litterature worldwide!
Review: The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan
Before starting this book, I wanted to say that I didn't have any intention of reading it only my mother bought me the second book of the series for christmas so now I feel kind of obligated. I really love Rick Riordan's work, his two series of greek mythology are some of my favorite books, but I'm not an egyptian mythology enthusiast and the synopsis kind of sucks because it mentions the adventure of a brother and his sister. Thing is, in my experience, that usually means no romance. But I read a few quotes and there seem to be a bit of flirting, a lot like the first few books of the Percy Jackson series. So now I start with new hope for this book.

Review: Song of the Lioness Series by Tamora Pierce
If I had to say what bothered me the most about this books series, it would be the rhythm of the story. Time went by so fast that by the fourth book I had lost count of how old Alanna was. It was confusing too. The story went from event to event without consideration for the time in between. One second I would be cheering for Jon and the next it would be months later and George would be my new favourite. Then it would be Jon again… and all that only in one book!
Her tendency to go “adventuring” to run from relationship was irritating. I am not against her going anywhere, just her reasons for doing so. Couldn’t she have at least brought one of the guys with her to keep things interesting? That said, I loved these books anyway.

Funny Excerpt From "The Heat is On"
"Just talked to your doctor—" Austin glanced at Bella, raised a brow, then silently sat on the other side of Jacob’s bed. "That her?"
"Who?"
"The woman you went out with, the one you dropped off the face of the planet for over the past few days."
Jacob felt the stupid smile cross his lips and couldn’t do a damn thing about it.
